How do I apply for the BITS-RMIT Higher Education Academy?

This page covers the admission process for all integrated first-degree Academy programs. Candidates should have passed the 12th class examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics and adequate proficiency in English. Information regarding the application process and timelines for the PhD program can be found here.

Applying to the BITS-RMIT Higher Education Academy is a two-part process. Please read the steps and deadlines carefully.

  • Part 1: Apply to BITS Pilani
    Complete your BITS application and fill your program preference for the BITS-RMIT Higher Education Academy program(s) via BITSAT 30 June 2025.
  • Part 2: Activate Your RMIT University Application and upload documents
    After you apply to BITS, you will receive an email from RMIT with a unique link and instructions to access the RMIT application portal, to activate your account and to set your password.

You must then upload the following documents to the RMIT portal to meet the entry requirements and note deadlines for each:

  • Visa questionnaire you receive from RMIT must be submitted no later than 6 July 2025. Additional steps may be required.
  • High School Transcript no later than 6 July 2025.
  • Evidence of English language proficiency ideally by 6 July, but latest by 30 July 2025.

Applicants must meet the entry requirements for both BITS and RMIT to qualify for entry into the Academy programs. Applicants who meet entry requirements will be ranked based on their moderated BITSAT score. Offers will be issued to the top ranked applicants down, until places are filled.

BITS Entry requirements

Admission into Academy programs will be made on the basis of marks obtained in the BITS admission test (BITSAT) score.

Timing: Applications for the BITSTAT test open around December each, with the test to be taken in May.

RMIT Entry requirements

Every RMIT program has its own specific entry requirements. You will find them under the heading Admissions in each program summary.

English Language requirements

You are required to provide current evidence of your English language proficiency for admission to RMIT. You can provide evidence of this through these options:

  1. Achieved 70% or above in Year 12 English subject score in Indian School Certificate examination (ISC)*
  2. Achieved 75% or above in Year 12 English subject score in Central Board of Senior Education examination (CBSE)*
  3. If you have other secondary qualifications or do not meet the subject score requirements listed above you will need to provide English language proficiency tests results. RMIT accepts a range of English proficiency tests. Refer to English language proficiency tests for international students website for the list of acceptable tests and scores you are required to obtain**

(*) You must provide an official letter from your high school office confirming that your Year 12 studies were taught and assessed entirely in English.

Transition to Australia

Before the end of the second year of their Academy program in India, students should start planning for their move to RMIT in Australia. RMIT University will support the students with the transition process, including providing the necessary documentation to apply for a student visa and resources to make the process easier.

Student visas

Academy students will require a visa issued by the Australian Government to study in Australia for years 3 and 4 of their program.

Students should check their eligibility, and requirements to obtain and maintain a visa prior to confirming a place at the Academy.
